Counseling

 RISE offers weekly guidance lessons, led by the class teacher and supported by the school nurse, counselor, and college counselor. These lessons focus on universal values, social-emotional skills, and preparation for future academic and career opportunities. 

 The psychological counselor (PC) at RISE supports students' emotional and behavioral well-being, specializing in mental health challenges like anxiety, depression, and stress. The PC offers individual counseling, leads small-group discussions, and delivers classroom presentations on social-emotional development. The counselor also collaborates with teachers and professionals to develop strategies for supporting students' emotional needs and enhancing their overall well-being. 

 RISE offers college counseling to guide students through the admissions process and help them plan for their academic and career goals. The college counselor helps students identify strengths and interests, explore college options, and provides support with essay writing, interview preparation, and test-taking. They assist with application submissions and financial aid forms, and lead workshops on college readiness topics. These services aim to help students achieve their post-secondary aspirations and succeed in their future academic and career endeavors. 

Class teachers are responsible for students' well-being and academic progress, serving as the primary point of contact between the school and families. Key responsibilities include:

• Creating and implementing guidance lesson plans that align with curriculum standards and goals.
• Monitoring and tracking academic progress, and communicating with parents about performance.
• Providing extra help for struggling students and challenging activities for advanced learners.
• Developing positive relationships with students and fostering a safe, respectful classroom environment.
• Collaborating with other teachers and staff for a cohesive educational experience.
• Enforcing school policies and addressing disciplinary issues.
• Organizing and supervising class activities, such as field trips and celebrations.

Class teachers are mentors and advocates, ensuring students receive the support needed to succeed both academically and personally.

The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award is a youth development program for young people aged 14 to 24 in over 130 countries. The non-competitive program allows participants to set personal goals and work at their own pace with the support of adult mentors. It consists of four sections:

1. Physical Recreation: Choose a physical activity and set goals to improve fitness.
2. Skills: Develop a chosen skill and set improvement goals.
3. Service: Engage in a community service project to make a positive impact.
4. Adventurous Journey: Plan and complete an adventurous journey to build teamwork, leadership, and resilience.

Participants who complete all four sections at Bronze, Silver, or Gold levels receive a certificate and medal. The award is highly valued by universities and employers and adds significant value to resumes and college applications.

RISE offers a variety of extracurricular activities to enrich students' experiences and foster learning beyond the classroom. These activities include:

• Sports teams: Opportunities for teamwork, leadership, and physical fitness through basketball, soccer, volleyball, and track and field.
• Arts and music programs: Involvement in choir, band, theater, and visual arts to encourage creativity and self-expression.
• Debate and speech clubs: Development of public speaking and critical thinking skills through lively discussions.
• Volunteer and community service: Encouragement of civic responsibility and positive community impact.
• STEM programs: Exploration of science, technology, engineering, and math through science olympiads and fairs.
• Cultural clubs: Celebration and learning of diverse cultures and traditions.

These activities help students develop a well-rounded education and prepare them for success both academically and personally.
